Kenya is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit depends on your interests:
Rainy Seasons: The long rains occur from April to May, while the short rains happen in November and December.
Kenya: For you to visit Kenya, you are required to have the travel authorization called Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an online travel authorization that allows travelers from eligible countries to enter Kenya for tourism, business, or transit purposes without the need for a physical visa. This document can be obtained online within 3 working days or more, prior to the start of the journey and is valid for 90 days from the date it is issued.
You will need the following for application purposes on the link https://etakenya.go.ke/
Tanzania: For you to visit Tanzania, you are required to have an e-Visa (electronic visa) which is applied online https://visa.immigration.go.tz/ This online authorization allows travelers from eligible countries to enter Tanzania—including mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar—for tourism, business, medical, or transit purposes without a physical visa.
Once applied online, the e-Visa is typically processed within a 2-10 working days and is valid for 90 days from issuance.
Referral visa requirement: some nationalities (e.g., Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, etc.) must apply in advance and receive immigration approval before e-Visa issuance
Kenya requires travelers to present proof of yellow fever vaccination if they are coming from or have transited through a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission.
In addition to yellow fever, travelers should ensure that they are up-to-date on routine vaccinations. While these are not mandatory for entry into Kenya, they are strongly recommended to prevent potential health risks during your trip.
While malaria is not a vaccine-preventable disease, malaria prevention is highly recommended for travelers visiting certain areas of Kenya, especially rural or coastal regions.
It is advisable to have travel/medical insurance that covers medical expenses, including evacuation if needed. This will ensure that you are covered in the event of an illness or emergency while traveling in Kenya.
Currency: The official currency is the Kenyan Shilling (KES), although US dollars are widely accepted, especially in tourist areas.
Payments can be done with Cash or ATMs and Credit Cards: ATMs are available in major cities, and most international credit cards (Visa, MasterCard) are accepted in larger hotels, restaurants, and shops. However, it’s advisable to carry some cash in local currency for smaller establishments
When preparing for a safari in Kenya, it’s important to pack wisely to ensure you’re comfortable, safe, and able to fully enjoy the experience. Here’s a list of essential items to bring on your safari:
Avoid bright colors or patterns: These can attract insects or disturb the animals, so stick to neutral, earth-tone colors.
