4 Days Mt Kenya Climbing - Sirimon Route
Nairobi, Mount Kenya, Nairobi
Tour Highlights
The Sirimon route allows you to ascend more steadily and gives you a stunning approach to the final peak. For this track, you’ll need a minimum of two days but it’s better to take an extra day to really adjust to the altitude. This is one of the most popular routes to the summit. There are a few good things about this route, one is that it’s somewhat protected from the rainfall so the track stays drier. The other is that there are two camps along the way, Old Moses at 3300 m and Shipton’s camp 4200 m. This allows you to recharge on your way up and take the walk at your own pace.
Mt. Kenya Trekking Safaris’ Information
Tourism is ever on the increase-not surprisingly! In this varied and interesting country. But we realize that being a tourist is not always easy, especially for those who enjoy physical activity. After long hours spent sitting in minibuses, it is refreshing to know that there is at least one place in Kenya where you can stretch your legs- and work off some of the extra calories you have accumulated from those fancy buffet luncheons.
A Four-Day Foot Safari to Mt. Kenya
Designed for those who have a minimum amount of time and who want to reach the third highest peak Pt. Lenana. This challenging, non-technical ascent can be made by any healthy person.
Day 1: Nairobi – Old Moses Camp
Pick up from Nairobi drive to Nanyuki Town located on the lower slopes of Mount Kenya, arriving in time for lunch drive to the Sirimon Park Gate(2660m) to start the climbing. From the gate, we trek up through magnificent montane forest, bamboo and giant heather zone before reaching the high-altitude moorland and our first hut (Old Moses camp 3,300m). For dinner and overnight. This is a gentle trek that takes 3 - 4 Hrs gaining an elevation of 680m.
Day 2: Old Moses Camp – Shiptons Camp
After an early breakfast trek to Shipton’s Camp (4200m). The hike is awesome but a good test of individual endurance on the mountain. The trek takes you up across hills and valleys through the entire stretch of the sprawling moorlands with unique and interesting plants and animals including the Giant groundsels and lobelias and the mountain rock hyrax. Dinner and overnight at Shipton’s Camp.
Day 3: Shiptons Camp – Point Lenana & Old Moses Camp
Leaving camp at 03/00hrs hike up the steep scree slopes and glacier to Point Lenana (4985m), the hiker’s summit. Planned that you arrive in time to witness the African Sun rising over the equator, reflect its golden glow on the majestic peaks of Batian and Nelion – you may feel tired after this demanding adventure but absolutely ecstatic after you’ve made it to the top. After the celebration at the top descend to Shipton's camp (4200m) for breakfast then proceed further down to Old Moses. Dinner and overnight at the Old Moses.
Day 4: Old Moses Camp – Nairobi
After an early breakfast, walk down through the rainforest for 2-3 hours, from where you connect the vehicle for transfer back to Nairobi. Arrival in Nairobi by late afternoon.

Health and Fitness Requirements
Anyone contemplating one of our expeditions should take regular exercise. It is recommended that you start a training program at least one, if not two months before your safari. “Running, swimming, cycling and stair-climbing are all good ways of toning up muscles.”
Seasons for climbing mt. Kenya
It has been generally accepted that our climbing seasons are from mid-December to mind- March and from mid-June -to the end of September. However, these traditional weather patterns seem to be the exception rather than the rule: the chances of encountering good weather on the mountain seem to be about equal throughout the year, so the timing of your safari is not as critical as once was.
Guides
Our professional local guides provide quality service on all our safaris.
