Day 4Masai Mara

Depart for a full day game drive at 0830 hrs.

at 1300 hrs, you enjoy a picnic in the vastness of the Mara.
Your will also make a few stops along the banks of the scenic Mara River to look out for hippos and crocodiles.
The reserve is famous for its exceptional population of game and the migration of the wildebeest, which occurs here every year in July and August.

Animals have no respect for boundaries, and hundreds of buffalo and wildebeest can be seen at certain times of the year, as part of the Mara lies across their migration route from the Serengeti in Tanzania. In the Masai Mara you really feel you are in the heart of Africa. It is fine country for lion, and you can hardly fail to see them. All the Big Five can be found – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino, as well as nearly every other kind of animal found in all the other parks in Kenya such as plains zebra, giraffe, Coke’s hartebeest, topi, impala, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle, Defassa waterbuck, buffalo and cheetah.

The Maasai people live in structures known as ‘Manyatta’, which are low height dwellings, essentially huts, made of mud, cow dung and wood, with a single entrance and minimal side windows. Clusters of these manyatta huts, which form a homestead or village, are known as a Maasai ”Boma”. Several Bomas can also join together to make a larger village. The individual huts themselves, the manyattas, have windows so small that it can be very dark inside a manyatta even on a sunny day.

While at the village you’ll have opportunities to purchase a great variety of beaded jewelry as a memento of your visit.
