Nestled in the heart of Kenya’s Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru National Park offers an unforgettable safari experience within just a few hours’ drive from Nairobi or Naivasha. Though compact in size, the park is famed for its diverse ecosystems, scenic landscapes, and remarkable concentration of wildlife — making it perfect for a one-day adventure. The park’s centerpiece, Lake Nakuru, is a shallow soda lake renowned for attracting thousands of flamingos and other water birds. Surrounding the lake is a rich tapestry of woodlands, grasslands, and cliffs, offering habitats for a wide variety of animals. Among the Big Five, rhinos (both black and white), buffalo, and lions are commonly spotted. The Park is also home to leopards, giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, and playful baboons, providing an excellent game viewing experience.
Pick up from the hotel or residence very early in the morning and depart for Lake Nakuru national Park for game drive If the weather and visibility allow, you will have a stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint.
The Great Rift Valley is a geological feature running north to south (6,400 kilometers) from northern Syria to central Mozambique. Astronauts say it is the most significant physical detail on the planet visible from space. In Africa, the terrain ranges from salt flats more than 152 meters below sea level to towering, snow-capped mountains. A series of some 30 lakes lie along its length. On arrival in the park, you will have a game drive.
Lunch at Lake Nakuru Sopa in the park is followed by a brief afternoon game drive to see 4 of the Big Five. Buffalo and rhinoceros are especially common in the park as you exit. You will depart and drop-off at your hotel in Naivasha.
